Our Story

Every movement has a beginning, and Overflow began with a simple desire:
to create a place where the next generation could genuinely encounter the presence of God.

More than a decade ago, what would become Overflow was birthed from a prophetic word declaring that those who would pursue God's presence with hunger and wholehearted devotion would experience an "overflow" that would impact not only their own lives, but an entire region. That word wasn't simply received as encouragement—it became the foundation for everything that followed. It shaped our prayers, fueled our faith, and gave language to what God was beginning to do among students and young adults.

In those early years, Overflow wasn't a conference. It was an every-other-month worship gathering where young people from different churches and backgrounds came together with one purpose—to seek Jesus. There were no big stages, well-known speakers, or expectations of what it would become. The focus was simply creating space for worship, prayer, and the life-changing presence of God.

As each gathering came and went, something remarkable began to happen. Students invited their friends. Churches began sending their young people. Hunger spread from one person to another, and attendance continued to grow. What started with fewer than 50 students steadily became one of the most anticipated gatherings for youth and young adults in the region.

It soon became clear that Overflow had outgrown its original format. Rather than hosting a gathering every other month, the decision was made to pour everything into larger conference experiences held twice each year. These conferences created more room for worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, ministry, and powerful moments of encounter with God. They also became a place where students could be challenged to live boldly for Christ long after the event ended.

As the years passed, Overflow continued to expand far beyond what anyone could have imagined. What began in a single room has now grown into a multi-day, multi-city conference, with annual gatherings in Buffalo, New York, and the DMV (Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia) region. Thousands of youth and young adults have walked through the doors of Overflow, representing churches, schools, campuses, and communities from across the Northeast and beyond.

Yet the story of Overflow has never been about numbers or growth. Every testimony of salvation, every life marked by the presence of God, every student who discovered their calling, every young leader commissioned into ministry, and every heart awakened to revival is a reminder of why Overflow exists. We believe the greatest measure of success isn't attendance—it's transformed lives.

Today, Overflow is more than an annual conference. It is a growing movement committed to awakening a generation to wholehearted devotion to Jesus. Our mission is to see students and young adults encounter God, be equipped through His Word, empowered by His Spirit, and sent back into their schools, campuses, workplaces, churches, and communities carrying the hope of Christ.

As we look toward the future, our vision remains the same as it was in the beginning: to create environments where hunger for God is cultivated, revival is awakened, leaders are raised up, and a generation is equipped to live as the Sent Ones. We believe the story of Overflow is still being written, and we're honored that so many people have become part of what God is doing.
